[ALISON ELIZABETH TAYLOR Swimming Pool, wood inlay, polymer 70x48inches]
[ALISON ELIZABETH TAYLOR RedRock, 2006, wood inlay, polymer 77x47 inches]
Some intriguing pieces I saw at James Cohan Gallery today. From afar, they look like elegant illustrations but when you look at them up close, you start to see the wood grains in intricate shades. These large pieces are fascinating to observe but they're not just technical achievements. The warmth of the wood adds soul to the otherwise vacant characters. Check out the show at 533 w26th Street, near 10th Ave. Ends September 30th.

I'm a marquetry artist, so I thank you for the comments on Taylor's work. But my concern is about what is happening to art-criticts-directors these days that consider the medium we use 'awkward', marquetry work as a hobby, the 'narrative' in pictures a tacky thing for low-middle class walls of the 60/70s', write in unintelligible language, and, on the other hand, consider that a pile of junk could be art? What is it about this pretentious people? All I've read about the work of Alison is like if she must give excuses/apologies for using the technique of marquetry in a NY art enviroment!
